Our Dream Home Renovation!
High End Renovations
The time has come for a renovation of our very own! We are very excited to introduce…
OUR COASTAL COTTAGE project!
The time has come, we are FINALLY kicking off our own dream home renovation! After seeing our clients’ dreams come to life time and time again, we decided it was finally time to bite the bullet and turn our tired little cottage into something fresh, new and exciting! Atlas, our own dream home renovation!
Turning our 1930s Workers Cottage into a modern open plan home big enough for our family of five (six including Brucey) is certainly going to be a challenge… nothing we aren’t up for though! As part of our design brief for this home, we wanted to keep our existing ‘Workers Cottage’ in its original form whilst creating a better flow & use of space throughout.
We believe the bones of this humble abode tell a story, and are a part of our history that will remain with us over the next stage of living in our home. As with many homes typically built in the 30’s, storage was not a huge part of home designs. This is however a fundamental feature of the design brief for our renovation. Custom joinery, built in robes and our hotly awaited ‘Mud Room’ for all of the kids’ gear is all going to make a major difference in our jam packed lives.
Another key focus point of our design brief is to create a deeper connection with the outdoors, specifically our garden and pool area. It is also important to create a better flowing floor-plan so we can have our own spaces in the home while also having plenty of spots to come together for connection and family time. We understand the main purpose of a home is for living which is why our final design has incorporated some beautiful features (we won’t give too much away just yet) that truly incorporate a ‘laid back’ feel which evokes a balanced sense of fun, calm & playfulness.
We have worked with our good friend and expert Stuart Osman to help us achieve our vision. Stuart has been incredible tending to our small detailed changes to complete the final design and achieve the overall floor plan we need to make this our family dream home.
After GREAT deliberation we have settled on our design brief.. we think!. Our dream home is going for a coastal cottage vibe that ties in and pays homage to our beloved Burleigh area. With juxtaposition in mind, it features a dark exterior which is in stark contrast to a light & airy modern interior.
As many of our builder and designer friends know, it really is harder to design your own home. We have so many exciting new ideas and features we want to use in our spaces.. it is SO hard limiting it down! But as with everyone we have a budget and we are going to try and stick to it!
Keep checking in with our socials, we will be posting regular updates over the coming months to keep you updated and give a little insight into the real behind the scenes of renovating your own home!
