Is Spanish Revival Architecture making a comeback?
What’s not to love about Spanish Revival Architecture? Curves & arches, artisan tiles, white render, Teracotta, timber frames & furniture, balconies & courtyards are all beautiful elements that complete this bespoke artisan look. For months, I have been in awe of the extremely talented TEd’A Arquitectes and their internationally renowned project Can Picafort, a once residential building transformed into bespoke, artisanal holiday apartments on the seafront of Mallorca, Spain. The design of this building, echoes many of the elements of the Spanish Revival in all its humble beauty. Intricate beauty and detail ensues in every corner of Can Picafort.
TEd’A Arquitectes ingeniously selected a monochromatic palette using terracotta hues to create a sense of calm and tranquility for holiday makers to unwind and enjoy the fresh sea breeze. These earthy tones accompanied with timber doors, windows and furniture create a further sense of warmth and balance throughout. The different plays on textures & patterns used with these earthy tones creates such visual appeal, one cannot help but feel drawn to these spaces.
As a Gold Coast Building & Interior Design Company we are seeing growing trends in design that celebrate, and draw inspiration from some of these elements of Spanish Revival architecture. Especially in the use of the terracotta colour in tiles, ceramics, textiles and artwork. This earthy palette is gaining great momentum and is certainly a trend we hope to see more of. There is something about this earthy palette that promotes a sense of being grounded and connected to the environment around us. Many more restaurant and bars on the Gold Coast are embracing the natural curves and arches from the Spanish Revival forming both the exterior & interiors designs. You only have to look at the recently built Hyde Paradisobar in Surfers Paradise to see the curved arches, terracotta hues in the furnishes and tiles as well as timber furniture.
We would love to know what your thoughts are on Spanish Revival Architecture and if you think it is making a comeback. Also, If you love this design and are looking to build a new luxury home on the Gold Coast, you can click on our ‘Contact Us’ link for more info.

As an Interior Designer working for a high-end luxury builder on the Gold Coast, I am constantly putting mood boards & ‘flatlays’ together for clients to help them visualize all the working elements of any particular design aspect of the build. The flatlay image above highlights the beginning of my process as Interior Designer in creating a visual story of what the project will look like upon completion.
Kitchens and Bathrooms are the parts of the home where the biggest impact can be made in terms of Interior Design and it is almost certain that I find myself spending a significant amount of time before & during the process of the build working to pull all the layers & textures together in the form of a moodboards or ‘flatlays’ for clients. My greatest joy when it comes to my job is seeing the faces of our clients at the end of the build when the moodboard has transformed into reality.
Over the past few years, our team at Davey Constructions has completed a number of luxury bathrooms & kitchens on the Gold Coast from Broadbeach Waters right through to Tallebudgera Valley. The pics above showcase some of our latest bathrooms & kitchens.
You can head over to our website to see more details and images of these projects and others.

With the recent completion of our Hamptons Project in Burleigh Heads we feel grateful for the opportunity to work with such wonderful clients who truly appreciate their new home and absolutely love the new version of their ‘beach shack’.
This build took the Davey Constructions team 6 months from start to finish, which included a new pool, new front fence and all hard and soft landscaping.
We recently had some had some professional photos taken by Rix Ryan photography which really showcase the attention to detail in all the finishes throughout the home. We are so thrilled with the outcome & the results speak for themselves!!
Last month saw the completion of our duplexes in Miami. This project was our first multi-dwelling build and was a huge success! In just 6 short months, the Davey Constructions Team, along with our wonderful trades & suppliers, managed to demolish the existing home and build 2 side by side duplexes on the Gold Coast Highway, Miami. The end result….a luxury, contemporary home filled with open, inviting living spaces which create a sense of warmth and sophistication.
Here’s what our lovely clients, Tina & Kerry Wylde had to say about their experience building with Davey Constructions. “ As I sit on the deck of the long awaited duplex, I am full of gratidue to all who made it a reality for us. A big thank you to Sarah & Jared from Davey Constructions who made it happen and built us a fantastic duplex! They put up with our indecisiveness, fussiness always with a smile. I highly recommend them if anyone needs a great builder.” We are always so appreciative for the wonderful feedback we receive for our clients both past & present.

Over the past few years there has been a growing trend on the Hamptons style home. As I meander through the streets of our suburb, Burleigh Heads, I tend to find at least a home or 2 in each street which has a real Hampton’s feel to it.
I am personally a fan of this style when done well, and I can openly say that our own family home certainly reflects elements of a Hamptons home, with its own little quirky twists of course!!
So what are some of the key features to use when trying to emulate a Hampton’s style home you might ask? White window trims & doors, timber cladding, shingle roof (in dark colour), high ceilings throughout and shaker style cabinetry (Hampton’s profile doors) are just some of the key elements that can transform an ordinary home into a Hampton’s one.
One of our current projects in Burleigh is a large scale Hampton’s renovation and it has been the talk of the street ever since we started construction. The timber cladding, high raked ceilings and shaker style cabinetry are the real heroes of the home. As shown in our progress pics, you can see that the home is certainly starting to take shape & is going to be absolutely stunning when completed.
Have a great month!

It has been another busy month for the Davey Constructions team with 3 projects now on the go. Our latest project is a new luxury build Broadbeach Waters. It has just been demolished, and the slab is set to be poured within a few weeks. This modern home, as shown in the 3d render above has been designed by Jayson Pate, who is a highly esteemed architect on the Gold Coast. We are very excited to be a part of this project and look forward to seeing it evolve over the coming months.
Our Hamptons renovation in Burleigh Heads is well underway now. Windows, doors & roof have been installed, house is nearly wrapped and ready for external cladding. As shown in the picture above, there are a number of spaces in the home that have a high pitched roof with vj panelling which really makes them an architectural feature. The high pitch also helps to create a greater sense of space & light throughout.
The Miami Duplex project is really only a matter of weeks before practical completion. Tiling is taking place in all the wet areas throughout both duplexes, and cabinetry install will be complete by early this month. Internal painting, flooring install, pool finish & landscaping are all part of the finishing touches which are scheduled for the later end of this month. This project has taken us no time at all, we demolished the existing home at the end of January and aiming to have our lovely clients settled in by early July. What an exciting time it has been!
Some other exciting news for our Company…. we have just set up our very own blog page on our website: www.daveyconstructions.com Here people will be able to have access to our monthly newsletter and also other interesting blogs posted on our social media pages.
Wishing you a fantastic month,
The Davey Constructions Team
After a relaxing Easter break it was straight back into work with both our Miami & Burleigh projects progressing along nicely.
Over the past month, the boys have been steadily cladding the entire exterior of the duplexes in Miami. Matrix cladding, linea board and axon cladding have all been used on this project to create architectural interest and highlight particular features of the building. Over the next few weeks the external paint colours will be added which will create more depth and really bring these duplexes to life. Also scheduled in the coming weeks are plastering, internal painting and tiling of all wet areas. By the end of this month, the duplexes will certainly be on the real home stretch!
We continue to make good progress on our Hamptons inspired renovation in Burleigh, demolition complete, extension slabs poured and framing has now begun. Along with all the construction work, we have been busy doing interior selections such as cabinetry, tiles & flooring with our lovely clients. Looking forward to seeing this beauty come to life.
Recently our boys participated in a charity golf day raising money for ‘Have a Feed,’ a not for profit organisation who provide food relief and support to the homeless in our community. A big thank you to our close friend Sam Arthur from Inside Golf for organising a great afternoon, for an even greater cause!
Hope you all have a fantastic month!
